The Way Out of Hopelessness

Psalm 130

A song of ascents.

Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord;
    Lord, hear my voice.
Let your ears be attentive
    to my cry for mercy.

If you, Lord, kept a record of sins,
    Lord, who could stand?
But with you there is forgiveness,
so that we can, with reverence, serve you.

I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits,
and in his word I put my hope.
I wait for the Lord
more than watchmen wait for the morning,
more than watchmen wait for the morning.

Israel, put your hope in the Lord,
for with the Lord is unfailing love
and with him is full redemption.
He himself will redeem Israel
    from all their sins.

Psalm 42

To the choirmaster. A Maskil of the Sons of Korah.

42 As a deer pants for flowing streams,
so pants my soul for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God,
    for the living God.
When shall I come and appear before God?
My tears have been my food
    day and night,
while they say to me all the day long,
    “Where is your God?”
These things I remember,
as I pour out my soul:
how I would go with the throng
and lead them in procession to the house of God
with glad shouts and songs of praise,
    a multitude keeping festival.

Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
    my salvationand my God.

My soul is cast down within me;
    therefore I remember you
from the land of Jordan and of Hermon,
    from Mount Mizar.
Deep calls to deep
    at the roar of your waterfalls;
all your breakers and your waves
    have gone over me.
By day the Lord commands his steadfast love,
and at night his song is with me,
a prayer to the God of my life.
I say to God, my rock:
    “Why have you forgotten me?
Why do I go mourning
because of the oppression of the enemy?”
10 As with a deadly wound in my bones,
    my adversaries taunt me,
while they say to me all the day long,
    “Where is your God?”

11 Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
    my salvation and my God.

There is a master of the air

Who tempts everyone to despair.

No one’s above this vile power

For all are subject to his scour.

His enticements and baubles cry,

Concealing this said serpent’s lie.

All are ravished by his cruel hate,

All imprisoned behind his gate.

Not satisfied with hopelessness,

He seeks to annihilate, oppress.

His goal’s to draw deeper, deeper

Into the abyss of the reaper,

Where he dashes hope like clay pots

And steals their soul to watch them rot.

But those who ask no more need mope

Because those who seek will find hope!

And those who knock will find the door

Open to glories fore’ermore!

And though narrow The Gate of Life,

It leads beyond all earthly strife,

Yet water and fire here below,

One must traverse as onward goes.

The adoption and heir secured,

As heart and soul are Spirit cured.

For faith believes and does receive,

And to the promise tightly cleaves

To vine, to root, the nourished branch,

Grafted to love, all fear is stanched.

And open wide life’s fountainhead

Or’flows with joy, just three words said,

“It is finished!” The Victor’s cry!

At Jesus’ cross hopelessness dies!

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,  to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you,  who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.  In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials,  so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.  Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.   1 Peter 1:3-9 ESV

Heavenly Father, If there is despair there must be hope.  If their is depression their must be joy.   It MUST be there somewhere.   I pray that all who suffer depression or hopelessness find the Truth in You and in the reality of a God who would love us so very much that He would send His one and only Son to die a cruel death for us on a cross, rise again, and draw us to be with Him in heaven above.   Not by anything we do….Hallelujah!….but by all that He has accomplished on our behalf!  Praise Jesus!

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Romans 15:13

Grace? What’s That?

Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us, from God the Father and from Jesus Christ the Father’s Son, in truth and love.
 2 John 1:3

Of all of the secrets

Of paradise pleasures

Grace is the most veiled

Of all of God’s treasures

But once grace is confessed

Sweetly upon the ear

Peace enters the heart

Embedding itself near

And love like a songbird

Lib’rated to the sky

Sings oh so sweetly

Salvation’s lullaby

To the toes, to the soul

This joy it suffuses

And quenches the flames

When conscience accuses

This God just so gently

with kindness expressing

His amitied mercy

bestows, sins confessing

So grapple this great hope

With feeble fingers tight

Cling to this treasure

With all of your might

And know if in weakness

To grace you fail to hold

Your Treasure will keep you

purchased, solid as gold

Amy (C)

The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. Ephesians 1:14

And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. …Acts 4:33

Lord Jesus, Satan, sin, and this world hide the greatest of treasures, but you through your word of grace, have graced us with faith to grasp and comprehend such a great grace.  May we be found worthy of this treasure now and on the day of your return.    In Your sweet name, Lord, Amen.

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.  Romans 10:17

UP Rooted

Trees are beautiful!

And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight…Genesis 2:9

…and good for food

…the tree of life also in the midst of the garden…

…and the tree of knowledge of good and evil…

Did Adam and Eve, our first parents, listen?

And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.  Genesis 3:6

What happened?

Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings. Genesis 3:7

What was a consequence?

“Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”— 23 therefore the Lord God sent him out from the garden of Eden

What was the solution?

But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.”  Galatians 3:13

Overcoming Injustice

Why do you make me look at injustice? Why do you tolerate wrongdoing? Destruction and violence are before me; there is strife, and conflict abounds.  ~Habbakuk

For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Hebrews 12:11

I remember the stripes

Unjust as they were

Paying the price

A Father’s wrath incurred

Like a bronzed prison

Descending on head

A dark cloudy vision

A darkness, a dread

A mysterious crime

Valuables stolen

Not just a dime

Started anger rollin’

But silver the value

of a thief’s soul

Forfeited virtue

A substitute’s goal

I remember the court

The judge and the jury

Condemnation’s cohort

And threat of perjury

I remember the grilling

The interrogation

The endless drilling

The endless questions

The guilty one’s denial

The innocent’s plight

There’s no parting the Nile

When it’s Egypt’s flight

I remember the breaking

The pressure too great

I remember the taking

Of cruel punisher’s hate

I remember the bath

The cold porcelain white

The red blush abashed

Paralysis’ bite

I remember the bending

The falling to knee

I remember submitting

To the jaundicy

I remember the welts

Red hot and searing

The unforgiving belt

The Executioner leering

I remember the shame

The baring so naked

The bearing of blame

And injustice taken

I remember the ending

The judgement spent

The penalty’s rendering

The penance rent

The harsh aftermath

The Just was undone

The unfair blood bath

The unjust was done

Amy 2/5/18

Remove your scourge from me; I am overcome by the blow of your hand. Psalm 39:10

I woke up in the middle of the night and, weeping, wrote the above poem in about half an hour.   It is based on something that happened in my childhood that was so unfair that it still haunts me to this day.

But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God.   1 Peter 2:20

I never really did understand the situation as it was happening to me as a young girl.   All I did know was that it was one of the most unjust things I ever experienced.

Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”  John 13:7

Someone guilty got away with a crime.

for I will not acquit the guilty.  Exodus 23:7

I understand it now.

He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”   1 Peter 2:24

How unjust is that?

How grace-filled is this?…

…he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. Psalm 103:10

Even as a young child receiving an unfair punishment.

And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God.   ~Revelation of John

Father God, in all things you work to the good for those who love you and have been called according to your purpose.   A person’s sin will find them out, this is sure.  The person that got away with that crime will be found out.  That is sure.  You will give men in exchange for the life of your Bride.  You have given men’s lives in exchange for your beloved Bride.   You will continue to give men’s lives in exchange for your Bride.  You specifically gave One man….your Son…in exchange for your Bride.  What a great faith we have!  He died for our sin that we may die to sin and live to Him.!  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.  Genesis 50:20

everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 1 John 5:4

What is Heaven Like?

If I could send you a postcard from where I’m at right now
the picture would do no justice!  The beauty here is WOW!

The colors are just so vivid!  They take your breath away!
And I never at all get tired for there’s no night, just day.

The smells and aromas excite!  Awaking things long dead!
And I never hunger or thirst because here I’m well fed!

The sounds are so celestial!  Angels sing all the time!
And the words are so majestic, in tune, and always rhyme!

So when you see the earth’s sunset, or geese flying in a “V”,                                It’s Jesus’ living postcard sent right to you from me!

Amy (C)

Wrote for my dearest spiritual Sister, Coliss, on the anniversary of her Mom’s death.   Oh how this speaks to me of her now that she is in glory.  I am so jealous!  She gets to see Jesus face to face for eternity!

Comfort about Christians Who Have Died

13 Brothers and sisters, we don’t want you to be ignorant about those who have died. We don’t want you to grieve like other people who have no hope. 14 We believe that Jesus died and came back to life. We also believe that, through Jesus, God will bring back those who have died. They will come back with Jesus. 15 We are telling you what the Lord taught. We who are still alive when the Lord comes will not go into his kingdom ahead of those who have already died. 16 The Lord will come from heaven with a command, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the dead who believed in Christ will come back to life. 17 Then, together with them, we who are still alive will be taken in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. In this way we will always be with the Lord. 18 So then, comfort each other with these words!

Father God?  Is there a heaven?  Is it a real place?  Yes!  How do we know?  Because your Son said so.   Give us the faith to continuously believe, and the hope to continually look forward to it, and the love to brush aside every hint of fear on our journey there.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

If this was encouraging to you in any way, please share.  Thank you.

Does Jesus Want You To Live in Fear?

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you…     Ezekiel 26:36

NO!!! Jesus does NOT want you to live in fear!

For God did not give us a Spirit of fear but of power and love and self-control. 1 Timoth 1:7

I hear Jesus firmly telling my heart…

Do not fear!

When I feel fear trying to grasp my heart and infiltrate the edges of my mind I am reminded that the Lord of the Host of Armies has commanded me…COMMANDED ME…

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”  Joshua 1:9

This past week He has brought three scriptures together for me that are helping me war against this spirit of fear that is attacking me…

Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God…  Ephesians 6:17

But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. 1 Thessalonians 5:8

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. Hebrews 6:19

Jesus, thank you and praise you for your powerful word that can, with one little word, defeat the darkest authorities!!!  I will not fear!!!  The Word hung on the cross that we may not be defeated by fear no matter what.  We posses that hope as surely as hope possesses us. We are anchored in that hope as surely as your cross was anchored on Calvary.  I praise you, Oh Glorious Lord of the Heavenly Armies!  Amen.

The Infinite Divine

Our view of heaven

Despite being tarped

Can still be managed

Though desperately warped

But one must first ask

With what DO we see?

Do we see with these eyes

Or do we see spiritually?

Is there one set of eyes

Or is there set two?

I know in my head

But can’t heart see, too?

But how can the heart

With vision attain

A view of heaven

Unblemished, unstained?

With sight full of lust

And every wrought sin

How can mere humans

Begin to imagine

A place so holy

And high and righteous

That flesh falls short

And must still and hush?

If heaven is source

We must begin there

But how do we begin

With invisible air?

We must find someone

Who’s been there and back

And cling to that one

Who knows what we lack

For it is his coming

And leaving a wake

That we catch a glimpse

And come awake

Forgiveness he spoke

With a living hope

Ignited new birth and

Internal flames stoked

Dry bones knit with flesh

New ears and new eyes

Open with wonder

To look past the skies

To a higher place

A cathedral rare

Built on pillars of faith

And gemstones fair.

And strengthened by

His body and blood

Paradise comes

Through sacrificial love!

We praise, “We see!”

And with illuminate mind

We seek to convey

To others, blind

This Manna of Gold

This Aged Fine Wine

This foretaste of

The Infinite Divine.

Amy (C) 12/30/17

Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and
he could see again.  Acts 9:18

Jesus, give them a single purpose and put a new spirit in them. Remove their stubborn hearts and give them obedient hearts.  Ezekiel 11:19  In Your Saving Name, Amen
