Something Foolish

SOMETHING FOOLISH

The world can’t walk
Nor can it run
It’s been lame from birth
A slave to the sun

Half in darkness
Blind it can’t see
Its ears are muted
Perpetually

Powerful chains
Hold it in place
It can only whirl
At ungodly pace

A ball of dust
And blue water
An imperfect sphere
Like clay to Potter

Subjected to
Frustration’s plan
Of form to decay
At the hand of man

In hope to free
From wretched curse
And bound oppression
This sorrowful earth

From up above
The Godhead knew
And sent a Savior
To redeem the few

By narrow way
The remnant scarce
Will respond to truth
And cling tight to faith

Their bonds will break
Forgiven and free
Their ears will harken
Their blind eyes will see

Their legs made whole
Will skip like calves
Released from their stall
They’ll jump and laugh

Created fresh
They’re born anew
Not of mortal flesh
But of Spirit true

All accomplished
Though earth seemed lost
By something foolish
Like God on a cross.

1 Corinthians 1:18-31 (NIV)

Christ Crucified Is God’s Power and Wisdom

18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written:

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”

20 Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22 Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.

26 Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him. 30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”

Lord Jesus Christ,  Your creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed.  For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but the will of the one who subjected in that the creation itself will liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.

We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.  Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.  For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have?  But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.  Help us to wait patiently, Lord, especially when all seems foolish.  In Your name, Amen.

I have included this song many times in my blogs.   It perhaps is one of my very favorites of all times.  It fits too perfectly that I cannot but include it again.  Thank you, Michael Card…

About lifevine

Hi! My name is Amy. I am a former atheist and, for a season, practiced witchcraft. God drew me out of darkness 17 years ago and gave me the spiritual gifts of knowing and faith. He gives me daily encouragement and affirmation and I hope to share Him with you. If you have not yet met the one true God, His name is Jesus Christ, and may I be the first to introduce you to Him? He is the Restorative Savior God promised Adam and Eve 6,000 years ago (Genesis 3:15) after they had sinned in the garden, bringing separation from God because of disobedience. It is rightly reported that a little over 2,000 years ago in Bethlehem He was born of a virgin, lived a blameless perfect life in and around Jerusalem, died on a cross on Golgotha for the world's sin, and 3 days later rose again. YES! ROSE AGAIN! AMAZING! Please get baptized in His name, and walk in an eternal restored fellowship with Christ. You can get to know Him by reading, marking, and inwardly digesting His Word.... His Holy Bible.
