Autumn Meditation

They do not say to themselves, ‘Let us fear the LORD our God, who gives autumn and spring rains in season, who assures us of the regular weeks of harvest.‘  Jer 5:24

In the fall,
when the warmth and light
slightly withdraw
from sight
and colors burst forth
in radiant splendor,
there is a pause
like the intake
of the breath.
Something to cause
the heart to catch
in a painful beat
as homesickness sweet
floods the chest
and weakens the feet.
Is it the receding sun?
Will it leave forever?
Will it forsake?
What is this loneliness that awakes?
That empty sound severed
like the end of the baleful howl
of a distant hound.
The hint of an echo
of ages past,
and hope of a life that lasts
beyond this realm of reality.

Something eternal glows;

color without,
a fire within,
a promise,
a hope of more!
A longing unfulfilled, glorified,
and yet somehow satisfied.
The fall sun,
its course to run,
the rays to blaze and score,
bathe and spill,
and fill the sky.
That’s it! The wind sighs.
A deep sigh.
A question why?
A sigh, and a why.
All the Answer needed,
in this heart, lies.
Knowing the promise of spring
is on the wing.
Let that haunting homesickness
Let it ride.
Let it ride.
This yearly climax
of eternity set in the hearts of men,
seen in the Autumnal tree.

autumncrossHe has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. Eccl 3:11

Jesus, thank you for the order of the seasons.   Thank you that you promise that you will never leave us nor forsake us.  In Your name, Great God, I pray.  Amen.

About lifevine

Hi! My name is Amy. I am a former atheist and, for a season, practiced witchcraft. God drew me out of darkness 17 years ago and gave me the spiritual gifts of knowing and faith. He gives me daily encouragement and affirmation and I hope to share Him with you. If you have not yet met the one true God, His name is Jesus Christ, and may I be the first to introduce you to Him? He is the Restorative Savior God promised Adam and Eve 6,000 years ago (Genesis 3:15) after they had sinned in the garden, bringing separation from God because of disobedience. It is rightly reported that a little over 2,000 years ago in Bethlehem He was born of a virgin, lived a blameless perfect life in and around Jerusalem, died on a cross on Golgotha for the world's sin, and 3 days later rose again. YES! ROSE AGAIN! AMAZING! Please get baptized in His name, and walk in an eternal restored fellowship with Christ. You can get to know Him by reading, marking, and inwardly digesting His Word.... His Holy Bible.
