My son loves Walker Texas Ranger aka Chuck Norris. We bought him a book “written by the actual Chuck Norris” (no, that’s what it says on the cover) called “The Official Chuck Norris Fact Book.” It’s filled with those little sayings that everyone quotes about him like, “Chuck Norris is the only man who can slam a revolving door” or “Chuck Norris was bit by a rattlesnake and the rattlesnake died.” or Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one bird.”
It’s good to laugh.
Now being a sleep’walker’ is no laughing matter. From what I hear from my family I was a sleepwalker when I grew up. A long time ago my Mom told me about a sleepwalking incident in the middle of the night when she followed me into the living room and watched me try to get the sewing machine to work. From what I remember her telling me I tried threading the machine and then sewing a scrap piece of material. I guess I got all tangled up in the thread and gave up.
Not too long ago my siblings also told me that I used to sleepwalk a lot. One time during my younger years when we were roofing our house I was told that I sleepwalked out into the yard at night and tried climbing the ladder up on to the roof. My parents had my brother follow me to make sure I didn’t hurt myself. According to his account he had to follow right behind me up the ladder and watch out that I didn’t fall off. He told me that he had followed me many times when I had sleepwalked.
My eyes were wide open the entire time, but I don’t remember a single sleepwalking incident.
When I ponder my sleepwalking that I don’t even remember I see a correlation between it and living in spiritual darkness. Most people sleepwalk through life and don’t even know that they are doing it. Oh, they go about their daily work like sewing or roofing but they are asleep. Kind of scary to think that you might be messing with sharp needles and ladders and heights while asleep!
They know nothing, they understand nothing; their eyes are plastered over so they cannot see, and their minds closed so they cannot understand. Isaiah 44:18
If we claim to have fellowship with him (Jesus) yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. 1 John 1:6
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 1 John 1:7
Jesus is the light.
Father God, I pray that you would wake us up. In Jesus name, Amen.
