Body piercing’s have really become all the rage. I mean they’ve been popular for as long as I can remember, but lately, it’s went to the extreme…
When does it end?
In my devotion this morning King David is recorded in Psalm 40 verse 6 as saying, “Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but my ears you have pierced; burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require.”
Other translations say he has “opened my ears” or “dug out two ears for me” or “ears you have made for me.” The Hebrew; Septuagint says “but a body you have prepared for me.” I’m not sure if this is what the Septuagint means but it causes me to think of God’s Son, Jesus.
If he has prepared his body for us shouldn’t we desire to prepare our body for him?
“Don’t you know that your body is a temple that belongs to the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit, whom you received from God, lives in you. You don’t belong to yourselves. You were bought for a price. So bring glory to God in the way you use your body.” 1 Cor 6
Why do you pierce your body? Have you ever really given it any deeper thought? Is it merely because you want a body piercing? Why? Before anyone gets a piercing or does anything that alters their physical appearance, find the real reason behind the desire.
I dare you to read Isaiah Chapter 53, and the next time you go for that body piercing remember Jesus was pierced for you!
CAUTION! Graphic content:
Father God, I have not used my body in ways that are pleasing to you. My motives are untrusting and unpure. I am, by nature, sinful and unclean. Not because some church tells me that I am. Not because some Preacher tells me that I am. Not because some Christian tells me that I am. I am sinful because your Word tells me that I am. I need you. I need you to pierce my ear. Open my ears so that I can hear you. Dig out two ears for me so that not only do I hear physically, but so that I can hear spiritually as well. Continued deafness serves the enemy. A pierced ear serves the Master. Jesus, Master, pierce my ear and make me hear. Amen.
