I challenge you to look around you today as you are out and about in all of your busyness. Notice all of the flowers, fruits, vegetables, greenery, fields full of ripening grain, and fruit bearing trees. (If you are in Southeast Michigan you may even see a bald eagle!) I also challenge you to imagine the world as satisfied with all of this fruit. Do you know that it is?
Can the earth be satisfied?
The fact that it can and does bear fruit is satisfaction because it is doing what it was designed to do. Psalm 104:13 says that “He waters the mountains from his upper chambers; the earth is satisfied by the fruit of his work.”
When was the last time you were truly satisfied?
Psalm 103:1-3 is meaningful in that it says, “Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits – who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” Not only does He satisfy you, He also forgives, heals, redeems and crowns you!
After all, we are just dirt…mud….earth. What would happen if we daily recognized and believed that Jesus watered us from His upper chambers. What kind of satisfaction would we experience by the fruit of His work?
I think Paul found the secret to true satisfaction; “I’ve learned to be content in whatever situation I’m in. I know how to live in poverty or prosperity. No matter what the situation, I’ve learned the secret of how to live when I’m full or when I’m hungry, when I have too much or when I have too little. I can do everything through Christ who strengthens me.”
Jesus, we may find momentary satisfaction in the things of this life, but even they all come from You, and You are true satisfaction. Help us to learn to be content-… satisfied in You, Lord, so that we can soar like the eagle. Amen
