He is the only treasure that hides Itself.
This is the thought that comes to mind when I think of our church’s VBS program this past week. Does the Bible tell us to hold VBS programs? No. Is there a commandment that says, “Thou shalt have VBS once a year? No. So then why do it? To fulfill Jesus’ great command to go and make disciples, baptize them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey God.
My son and I had, on average, eight 4th graders each day. Half of them were not baptized. I encouraged them to get baptized. Believing and baptizing were of extreme importance to Jesus, and they are important to us. As I mature in Christ I realize the extreme spiritual significance of being baptized. If you are reading this and you are unbaptized….hurry to the baptismal waters!!! Believe me! It is important!
Every day of VBS was a challenge. There were many ways the enemy tried to come against the Word of Christ. My son and I were discussing this and the challenges we were having, especially with one willful young man. We discussed how it was obvious from the struggles that God was really at work in this child’s life.
I have come to appreciate willful children. They are our future great leaders if that willfulness is handled correctly. They were born to lead, and they just don’t know how to reign in that gift, yet, and use it for God’s glory.
It was very apparent to me as I sat with these kids day after day that they were hungry to know about Jesus. There were 3 kids that asked a lot of questions and the other kids listened intently to the answers. They were all curious to know more about God.
I encouraged them to keep asking questions and keep seeking answers, and if one person won’t answer their questions, then keep asking until someone will. I told them to never give up!
Jesus said, “If you seek me you will find me if you seek me with all your heart.”
Jesus, one of our memory verses this past VBS week was, “Where your treasure is there your heart will be also.” You are my treasure. My heart is with you. I pray that all of our VBS children will never give up seeking you. Your word is treasure. May they find you and be found by you. May each and every one of them share in Heaven, too. In your name, Amen.
