There be sharks in them thar waters

I watched ‘Jaws’ when I was a teenager.  Mistake!  I couldn’t go into a body of water after that (even a harmless swimming pool!) without thinking that a shark was going to come up at me from underneath and pull me under.

Thinking about this reminds me of what Jesus said. “I will make you fishers of men.”  He didn’t tell me that sometimes I’d have to swim with sharks!

I watched an Animal Planet promo the other day on sharks.  Someone was safely swimming with sharks in a shark proof cage.  NOT!  You’d think that when they designed them they would make sure the openings would never allow a shark to penetrate the safety, but nooooo!  In this particular video shot a huge Great White shark charges the cage and, before you know it, the shark is in the cage with the divers!

Did you ever notice that sharks swarm where there is blood to be found?

I see Jesus’ church as a kind of shark proof cage of supposed safety within a deep vast ocean of lost souls.  We are to be fishers in this ocean and cast out the bait and hope someone hears the gospel of Jesus Christ and takes the bait, but sometimes the sharks are swimming in the cage with us, and you can’t point out that fact to a shark.  They are a shark.  They just can’t understand that kind of wisdom with their tiny little shark brain.  They are big, dumb, mean, hungry, selfish, arrogant fish.

So what should we do?  Punch them in the nose and hope they don’t eat bite us?  Hope they turn tail and escape back the way they came?  Nope!  I think that when a shark is in the cage we need to deploy the weapons of spiritual warfare and take our stand against the powers of this dark ocean until one of us is dead.

Is it scary swimming with sharks?  Yes, but Jesus is in me, and He who is in me is greater that he who is in the ocean world.

Mt 7:15 “Beware of false prophets. They come to you disguised as fish sheep, but in their hearts they are vicious sharks wolves. – Jesus

About lifevine

Hi! My name is Amy. I am a former atheist and, for a season, practiced witchcraft. God drew me out of darkness 17 years ago and gave me the spiritual gifts of knowing and faith. He gives me daily encouragement and affirmation and I hope to share Him with you. If you have not yet met the one true God, His name is Jesus Christ, and may I be the first to introduce you to Him? He is the Restorative Savior God promised Adam and Eve 6,000 years ago (Genesis 3:15) after they had sinned in the garden, bringing separation from God because of disobedience. It is rightly reported that a little over 2,000 years ago in Bethlehem He was born of a virgin, lived a blameless perfect life in and around Jerusalem, died on a cross on Golgotha for the world's sin, and 3 days later rose again. YES! ROSE AGAIN! AMAZING! Please get baptized in His name, and walk in an eternal restored fellowship with Christ. You can get to know Him by reading, marking, and inwardly digesting His Word.... His Holy Bible.
