The question popped into my head just a few seconds ago, “Why don’t we have a Memorial Day for the greatest Warrior who ever lived, Jesus Christ?” and then immediately I realized, “We do!!! Easter!” Not only do we memorialize His death, but we also memorialize His birth by celebrating Christmas. The only problem is the genuineness with which we remember.
When we pay tribute to fallen military men and women, as we did yesterday, we truly recognize the great sacrifice they made on behalf of maintaining freedom for us. Do we do the same at Easter and Christmas. Or is it more about the bunny and the chocolate and the Santa and the presents? Why have Jesus’ two Memorial Day holidays been so commercialized they have almost lost their true meaning, but Memorial Day is so genuine and not commercialized?
I want to give a heartfelt thanks to every veteran who has ever given their life as a living sacrifice by serving to maintain the freedom of this great country…the greatest country ever! But I want to be a living memorial to the greatest Living Sacrifice ever, Jesus Christ!
Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Father, Your word endures forever. Jesus is the Greatest Veteran. Thank you for giving your Son for our freedom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
