As I look forward to the prom my son will be attending Friday at the Country Club, I think about all of the transformations that will be taking place. The tuxedoed, clean-smelling, neatly-groomed, deliberate transformations of the young men, and the formal dresses and new shoes, coiffed hair, polished nails, and artistically applied make-up transformations of the young ladies.
But what about the inner man. No grooming in the world, no new tuxedo or dress or shoes, no make-up, or new hair do, no polish or perfume can clean up – transform – that mess.
I’m reminded of a book I just finished reading by author/Pastor David Wilkerson entitled “The Cross and the Switchblade.” If you haven’t read it yet, it is about gang members caught in the viciousness of gang life. Their lives were miraculously transformed by one thing…God’s Word, The Holy Bible.
God’s Word has the power to transform lives and to release people from gangs, addictions, bondage, hatred, jealousy, racism, atheism, and a plethora of other chains that hold the human race imprisoned. God’s Word is the only thing that can get inside of you to clean up the inside. If the inside is clean it will show on the outside with no need of fancy duds or foo-foo.
Jesus said, “I make all things new.” Repent and believe.
