I am an ever present help in times of trouble.
Ever present. Always there. There is not one moment, not one millisecond that goes by, that God is not there. In Him we live, and move, and have our being. He is ever present because we are in Him. Live in the awareness of being IN Him.
Jonah was IN the great belly of the fish. Do you think he had an awareness of being IN? Maybe He needed the reminder since he was trying to flee away from God. Even IN the belly of a fish, Jonah was In God. Maybe Jonah was maturing IN to that knowledge, and he needed an object lesson.
Where can I go from Your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your presence? Half the battle…maybe all the battle, is coming to grips with the fact that we are In God with no chance of fleeing and no chance of escape. One of the greatest truths of maturing is to stand in the responsibility of self and one’s sin, and to stand in the presence of a God of grace, even when we feel like fleeing. If not for the cross and the great love of Jesus Christ, we would be unable to stand In Him; In His presence.
The ancients realized that as the angel of the Lord would reveal Himself to them they would cry out in fear because they knew that if anyone saw the face of God they would die. The awesome thing about it was the angel of the Lord spoke to them face to face, and yet, they lived!
Thank you, Jesus, that I am In You. So many people are living blind and deaf to that fact. I don’t want to be blind and deaf. I want to see and hear and experience and live!!! Only in the experience, such as Jonah’s, do we come to trust that we are In You and that we are, indeed, safe. Be gentle with us Lord Jesus, as we grow in the grace and knowledge of You, because it is sometimes not an easy thing to be aware of You. Especially when we have sinned against you and our conscience is sore afraid. During those times pour out Your love into our life for perfect love casts out all fear. In Jesus name, Amen
