How unsearchable the love of Jesus Christ! He says that I have loved you as a husband loves his wife. What? He says that I know you. I know every intimate detail about you and I love you. What? He says that I have loved you with an everlasting love. What? What does all this mean? How can anyone, let alone God Himself, say that He loves me? This must be madness! Does He know what I have done? Does he know the depths of depravity my mind has sunk to? Does he know the sins against Him and Him only that I have committed and continue to commit? Not only does he know that depravity, those sins, He also knows sins that we ourselves know nothing about in our ignorance of Him. I am terrified, Lord! I believe, help my unbelief.
And yet, and still, He went to the cross. Even knowing all our sins against His commands He went to the cross. His word states that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and yet it also states that for all who received Him….to those who believed in His name….He gave the right to be be called children of God. All? Yes, all. This includes me. This includes you. That is why God says to grow in the GRACE and KNOWLEDGE of Him. He is a grace-full God. Full of GRACE; unmerited favor. There is nothing any of us have done or can do to deserve anything from God. He did it all on the cross. Jesus said, “It is finished.” What is finished? The payment, the penalty for our sins. Without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins. The wages of sin is death. Jesus did it all for us. A sacrifice had to be made. Blood was demanded of us and Jesus stepped in and died for me, for you. And even still today He pours out blessing upon blessing, grace upon grace, just for us. Repent and believe and be saved. This promise is for me. This promise is for you. It is Truth revealed.
Where sin abounds, grace abounds all the more.
God’s love is infinite and eternal. Our sins are finite and limited to our existence.
